Havana, October 11 - The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, held a meeting on Thursday afternoon with General Julio César Avilés Castillo, Commander-in-Chief of the Military Forces of the Republic of Nicaragua, to whom he conveyed greetings to Commander Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.
The head of state noted that this visit would contribute "to strengthening, expanding, and consolidating the historical relations between Cuba and Nicaragua."
Also participating in the meeting were Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of the FAR, and Army Corps General Joaquín Quintas Solá, among other Cuban military leaders.
During the exchange, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed the close relations between both revolutions and their cooperation, including in the field of defense. "Nicaragua and Cuba have always defended common positions," the president emphasized.
He highlighted the strength of the ties between the two nations, between the Sandinista National Liberation Front of Nicaragua and the Communist Party of Cuba, as well as between the parliaments of both countries and their armed forces.
He also fondly recalled the internationalist mission he fulfilled in the Central American brother country in the late 1980s. "For me, Nicaragua is dear," he stated.
In thanking the Cuban president for his reception, General Julio César Avilés Castillo conveyed "the greetings and appreciation" from the Nicaraguan Presidency, from co-presidents Commander Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.
"We bring," Avilés Castillo added, "greetings from our homeland and from the Nicaraguan army, an institution that is very close to our brothers in the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba."
The meeting included, from the Central American country, Major General Leonel José Gutiérrez López, Brigadier General Juan José Membreño López, Brigadier General José Alberto Ramírez Guevara, Colonel Máximo Mayorga Andrade, and Colonel Enrique José Pavón Álvarez. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
