Camagüey, October 11 - The eradication of blockages in the sewage network is a permanent action of the Sanitation Business Unit (UEB) in Camagüey. This recurring problem in several sectors of the city complicates the epidemiological situation in the area.
This weekend, with the support of provincial government authorities, efforts are concentrated in the Julio Antonio Mella neighborhood.
For months, the discharge and accumulation of wastewater have persisted without a definitive solution, leading to repeated complaints from the affected population.
Lourdes Oñoz, a resident of building 59, reported that wastewater has invaded the nearby patios due to collapsed pipes, along with weeds that have grown due to the poor condition of the areas that have not been cleaned.
She added that with the intervention of the sanitation brigade, a more thorough job could be done to unclog the manholes and sewage conduits.
Belkis Guerra, a resident of one of the lower floors of a nearby building, noted that the main issue has been the intrusion of putrid water through the internal drains of her home, along with an increase in mosquito proliferation.
Lenier Cruz Fernández, director of the UEB of Sanitation, indicated that they have been working in that area of the city for several days due to complex blockages, such as the central sewage line for buildings 58, 59, 60, 61, and 62, where between five and six meters of pipe have been replaced, collapsed by soil and various waste.
The official added that repairs on these connections will continue until the problem is resolved definitively. Subsequently, similar interventions will be ordered and executed in other areas of the provincial capital, according to the level of complexity and priority of each zone.
