Cuban Friendship Medal awarded to Australian musicians

Brisbane, Australia, October 13. - Prominent Australian musicians Sue Monk and Lachlan Hurse received the Friendship Medal today in this city from the Cuban ambassador to Australia, Tanieris Diéguez.

The presentation of this high distinction, awarded at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, for its acronym in Spanish), took place within the context of the "From Australia to Cuba with Love" campaign launched by Sue and Lachlan four years ago.

The purpose of the initiative is to cover the distance between Havana and Canberra by various means and, at the same time, raise funds to help develop projects in Cuba.

"This is a well-deserved award, for so many years of defending the cause of Cuba, uniting wills in its favor, and demanding an end to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed by the United States more than six decades ago," emphasized the diplomat.

Diéguez thanked both the honorees and those present at the ceremony for their affection and solidarity with the Cuban people and conveyed to them a greeting message from the President of ICAP, Fernando González.

The Friendship Medal was also previously awarded to the head of the Friendship Society with the island (ACFS) in Melbourne, Maree Dellora, and Elizabeth Hulms, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, and a prominent activist and great friend of the Cuban Revolution.

In the coming days, other awards will be presented to Robe Parnel and Bob Treasure, presidents of the ACFS branches in Canberra and Sydney, respectively, as well as to Juan Garrido and Glenda James, members of the solidarity movement with Cuba in the cities of Adelaide and Canberra.
