China emphasizes willingness to strengthen cooperation with Latin America

Beijing, January 23 - Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized today that Beijing is willing to remain a good friend and partner to the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The president held a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and China's ties with the entire region.

According to the official statement, Xi recalled that in 2024, both leaders elevated bilateral relations to a China-Brazil Community with a Shared Future to build a fairer world and a more sustainable planet.

He noted that, since then, cooperation has progressed steadily and has become a model of collaboration among countries of the Global South.

The Chinese leader emphasized that 2026 marks the beginning of China's "15th Five-Year Plan," aimed at promoting high-quality development through high-level opening up.

He stressed that this policy will generate new opportunities for cooperation with Brazil in multiple sectors.

Xi stated that China and Brazil, as key players in the Global South, must uphold world peace, reform global governance, and protect the central role of the UN.

For his part, Lula described Xi's visit to Brazil in 2024 as historic and highlighted the progress in bilateral cooperation since the creation of the common destiny.

The Brazilian president expressed his willingness to deepen the strategic partnership with China and strengthen collaboration within the BRICS mechanism, while also demonstrating his commitment to promoting ties between Beijing and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Both leaders agreed on the need to preserve multilateralism, free trade, and regional and international stability.

Last month, China presented its third Policy Document for Latin America and the Caribbean, focused on promoting cooperation without geopolitical calculations in a context of growing global uncertainties. (Text and photo: PL)
