Vaccination against Human Papillomavirus begins in Camagüey

Camagüey, October 18 — The province of Camagüey will begin vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) on October 27, in a campaign that will run until January 31, 2026.

This action is part of the introduction of a new immunogen into the National School Immunization Program.

Taimi Miranda Vergara, responsible for the vaccination program in the province, explained that the strategy will involve specialists from the Health sector working together with the Education sector.

Vaccinations will be carried out in primary schools, special education centers, and designated vaccination sites.

Miranda Vergara emphasized that this vaccination addresses the proven link between persistent HPV infection and cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women worldwide.

In this first stage, the program aims to immunize more than 3,000 nine-year-old girls.

The specialist clarified that those minors who do not receive the dose during the campaign in schools can go to the polyclinic in their health area to receive it later.

The same option is available to girls who turn nine during the remaining months of the year. (Text and photo: Zenia Donet García / Radio Cadena Agramonte)
