Camagüey’s electrical workers to support recovery in Eastern region

Camagüey, October 29 - A group of 60 electrical workers from the province of Camagüey, part of the Ignacio Agramonte Contingent, will depart this morning for eastern Cuba, where they will contribute to the recovery efforts following the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The linemen, dispatchers, technicians, drivers, and other key areas come from several municipalities of the territory, willing to help restore the effects of the meteorological phenomenon, as a new sign of solidarity that characterizes those who belong to the guild.

Upon confirming this to the Cuban News Agency, engineer Juan Carlos Lacaba Jofre, director of the Customer Service Center of the Camagüey Electric Company, explained that they are scheduled to collaborate in Santiago de Cuba, although they will contribute wherever necessary, with the goal of restoring normalcy as soon as possible.

He emphasized that these are valuable men from the organization, with extensive experience in tasks of this type, and that they are prepared to restore the electrical networks of the eastern zone, which was hit by the powerful event.

Lacaba Jofre reported that several 34,500-volt lines in the Camagüey province are currently experiencing outages due to the winds and rains from Tropical Storm Melissa.

The National Electric Union announced on Tuesday the formation of joint brigades, comprised of electrical specialists and workers from designated production centers, to provide an immediate response to the cyclone's impact on the eastern region of the country.
