Camagüey, November 3 - Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, Vice President of the Provincial Defense Council and Head of Civil Defense in Camagüey, urged the acceleration of the docking and rice unloading processes at the Port of Nuevitas. This follows the resumption of activities in the northern part of the province to distribute the food as quickly as possible.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, Sutil Sarabia verified the support measures carried out in conjunction with transporters and workers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade, who are working non-stop to resume operations in the coming hours.
Before the meteorological event and the securing of resources in the Port of Havana, 105 tons of rice were successfully unloaded. This rice was distributed in Nuevitas and in zones one and two of the provincial capital, corresponding to Lenin-Albaiza and Guernica-Puerto Príncipe. Distribution will continue in the capital city, delivering two pounds per person corresponding to the months of June and July.
The Governor called for discipline and organization to guarantee the correct execution of the port operation, including extraction, transportation, and electrical protection whenever possible. This is essential to maintain stability in the unloading process, benefiting the inhabitants of the province and also the communities of Las Tunas and Ciego de Ávila.
