Camagüey, Nov 24.- The assembly of the structures that support the photovoltaic panels at La Cívica solar park, north of this city, is 45 percent complete. This is the most advanced of the two parks being built by the Camagüey Electric Company with the aim of further increasing the contribution of this type of generation to the country.
Similarly, work on the remaining construction elements at the site is progressing. This is the second 21.8-megawatt (MW) park that the entity plans to inaugurate in the territory, which is executing another solar facility of the same capacity in the Ortigal area, belonging to the municipality of Florida.
In the case of La Cívica park, more than 800 support structures have already been installed, out of a total of 1,638, and over seven thousand meters of trenches for laying various cables have been completed, Rolando González Rodríguez, investment director of the Camagüey Electric Company, informed the Cuban News Agency.
The manager assured that they have all the necessary resources to work; however, they are facing the effects of rain in the trenches, plus recent rainfall reported in that very humid area. This has forced them to extract water from the trenches, re-profile them, and also repair the access roads, which were also affected.
He explained that they have already largely restored one of the access roads, the one on the northern part, and are working on the central one, as well as in the storage area and temporary facilities, which are essential for handling resources.
La Cívica photovoltaic park already has the foundations for the primary, secondary, and inverter containers ready, he added.
There is still much work ahead, emphasized González Rodríguez, while reaffirming that they maintain the upcoming month of December as the completion date for the project.
The work is primarily carried out by brigades from Construction and Assembly Companies 1 and 2 of the Camagüey province, the Cayo Cruz company, and another group of entities, including COPEXTEL, the Information Technology and Automation Company (ATI), the Comprehensive Automation Company (CEDAI), and Geominera Camagüey.
Regarding the Ortigal solar park, which will contribute another 21.8 MW to the National Electric System (SEN), the director of the regional Electric Company stated that almost all earthmoving work is finished, and they are now working on casting the foundations for the four platforms where the container structures will be placed.
Simultaneously, at this latter site, where personnel from construction companies and several support entities are working, they have begun the perimeter fence and are advancing in the driving and casting of piles, with over 400 of these structures already completed.
Since last May, the Luaces park, located in the southern municipality of Vertientes, has been contributing to the SEN. It is the largest in the Camagüey region to date and currently delivers around 20 MW daily, depending on solar radiation during the midday peak hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In the first phase of the program planned by the electricity sector in the Caribbean nation, in collaboration with the People's Republic of China, which aims to add 1,000 MW to the National Electric System (SEN), Camagüey is to build three 21.8 MW plants. These will be added to five other smaller, active photovoltaic plants, which together have a capacity of between 11 and 12 MW. (Jorge Luis Moreira Massagué/ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
