Cuba falls in debut of the Women's Handball World Championship

Stuttgart, November 27 – Cuba fell 20-41 to Brazil today in their opening match of Group G at the 27th Women's World Handball Championship, played at the Porsche Arena in this city.

With order, speed, and accuracy as their weapons, the South Americans dominated from start to finish in a match that highlighted the gap between the two squads in this opening game of the Germany-Netherlands 2025 tournament.

Brazil displayed a nearly impeccable offensive machine, with 63 percent effectiveness in shots on goal and 100 percent from the seven-meter line, figures that sealed their authority on the German court.

Alexandra Do Nascimento led the Brazilian scoring festival with seven goals, followed by Jamily Do Nascimento (6), Jessica Quintino (5), Bruna de Paula (5) and Larissa Fais Munhoz (5).

On the Cuban side, the fighting spirit of Jennifer Amanda emerged, author of 8 goals, supported by Dianny González (3).

The World Cup brings together 32 teams from around the globe in pursuit of the title currently held by France, the 2023 champion. In this preliminary phase, three of the four teams advance to the main round, while the remaining team competes for positions 25 to 32.

Cuba, participating for the fifth time in these contests - after its appearances in 1999, 2011, 2015, and 2019 - has never managed to place among the top 20, and its best results remain the 21st places in 1999 and 2019.

The path for the Caribbean team will continue on Saturday against Sweden and conclude on Monday against the Czech Republic, in a group dominated by Brazil, which finished ninth in the previous edition and was world champion in Serbia 2013. (Source: Prensa Latina)
