Havana, Dec 1. The Special Troops of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR, for its acronym in Spanish) are celebrating today the 39th anniversary of their creation, with events in units of that corps and a congratulatory message from the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar, for its acronym in) and its armies via social media.
"Minfar Cuba congratulates the combatants of the Special Troops, men and women of marches and mountains, with infinite will and loyalty proven in all trials," the ministry highlights on Facebook and X, and recalls that those troops were founded by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro (1926-2016).
This 39th anniversary recognizes the rigorous preparation, exemplary resistance, and constant loyalty of the men and women who make up that elite force, considered an indispensable pillar to guarantee the nation's security and sovereignty.
The Special Troops emerged in the early years of the Revolution, as part of the country's comprehensive defense strategic concept, with the mission of confronting conventional and irregular warfare operations and carrying out high-risk tasks.
Their creation responded to the vision of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to conceive defense as a collective and patriotic responsibility; since then, these units have participated in key moments of national territory protection and in internationalist missions.
