Cuba bids farewell to its fallen sons in Venezuela (+Photos)


Havana, Jan 17. - With the participation of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, combatants and the people accompanied, in this capital, the military interment ceremony for four of the 32 combatants fallen in Venezuela.

The ceremony took place before the monument to the Firefighters in the Colón Necropolis of Havana, where the last honors were paid to First Colonels Humberto Alfonso Roca Sánchez and Lázaro Evelio Rodríguez Rodríguez, Lieutenant Colonel Rodney Izquierdo Valdés, and Captain Yorlenis Revé Cusa, who fulfilled their duty to that South American country and the protection of its President Nicolás Maduro Moros at the cost of their lives.

Floral wreaths on behalf of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, of Díaz-Canel, of the ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR, for its acronym in Spanish) and of the Interior (Minint), of the families, and of the people of Cuba head the tribute.

In the farewell words to the compatriots, Livan Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of the political organization in the capital, read the record of service of the combatants, highlighting in each of them their long history of services rendered to the Homeland.

Izquierdo Alonso emphasized the fidelity of these men to a just cause, for which they gave their blood, and their unbreakable loyalty to the Revolution and to the example of the leaders of the process.

He stated that each life cut short multiplies into millions of compatriots who will not cease in denouncing this criminal act nor will they ever capitulate.

"Rest in peace, compatriots! Cuba will move forward: that is what you fought for, and with your example we will never fail in the defense of the Homeland," he concluded.

At the end of the funeral honors, a volley of shots was fired and the Cuban president paid a simple tribute to the fallen, which was followed by their family members and comrades from the FAR and the Ministry of the Interior, together with the general public. (Source: ACN)
