Camagüey, Dec. 2 - Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz returned last night to the Revolution Square Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz in this city, once again undefeated, rebellious, and eternal, nine years after his ashes rested in the Jimaguayú Hall of that emblematic site.
This was recalled by the people of Camagüey, led by the highest authorities of the Provincial Defense Council, during a gala in homage to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, in which music, poetry, dance and décima became the best pretext for prestigious Camagüey’s artists to pay tribute to him.
Performances by the Camagüey Professional Choir, the Voces Duo, the troubadour Andy Daniel, the group Mi Jazz, and others, honored Fidel and his glorious legacy.
Under the artistic direction of Jesús Vidal Rueda Infante, the improvisational poets Héctor Peláez and Nelson Lima also highlighted the brotherhood between Fidel and Frei Betto, Nelson Mandela, Gabriel García Márquez, and Hugo Chávez Frías. In their décimas (ten-line stanzas), they expressed that "no power can destroy the union between the two peoples," referring to the bonds of friendship between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Cuba.
With choreography by the Vocational School of Art, soloists Aida Esther and Joan Márquez, along with the group Mi Jazz, performed "Riding with Fidel," a song by Raúl Torres, whose musical theme continues to inspire a multitude of grateful people.
While the lyrics moved more than one Camagüeyan, reflections from the Commander-in-Chief such as "If I leave, I arrive; if I arrive, I enter; if I enter, I triumph," "A Revolution can only be the daughter of culture and ideas," "When an energetic and virile people weep, injustice trembles," or "Homeland or death, we will overcome," reaffirmed that Fidel lives, inspires, and guides a people committed to "defending values in which they believe at the price of any sacrifice."
