Trump's envoy arrives in Moscow to meet with Putin

Moscow, Dec. 2 - Steve Witkoff, special envoy of US President Donald Trump, arrived in Moscow on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue negotiations on the peace plan outlined by the White House to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Upon his arrival at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, Trump's envoy was received by Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian Presidency Special Envoy for International Investment and Economic Cooperation.

Washington has already discussed its initiative with Ukraine. On November 23, delegations from both countries met in Geneva, Switzerland, where, according to some media reports, the original 28-point proposal, which ignored some of Kyiv's main demands, including its refusal to cede Donbas and its aspiration to join NATO, was reduced to a 19-point draft. Talks continued on Sunday in Florida.

Now, Witkoff, who is accompanied by Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will seek to advance negotiations with the Russian side.

The current context is not favorable for Ukraine, given the huge corruption scandal that is shaking the inner circle of the regime's leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, and led to the dismissal of his chief of staff and chief negotiator, Andrei Yermak. Trump suggested on Sunday that this weakens Ukraine's position.

On the front, kyiv also faces a complex situation. The initiative is in the hands of Russian forces, Putin stated at a meeting with military commanders held on November 30 and reported this Monday by the Kremlin, coinciding with the liberation of the key city of Krasnoarmeisk (known as Pokrovsk in Ukraine), in the Donetsk Popular Republic.

The president emphasized the importance of this advance for Russia: "It will help us progressively resolve all the main tasks that are posed to us and that were initially established at the beginning of the special military operation". (Text and photo: RT)
