Ramala, Dec. 3 - The Israeli army has killed 257 press workers since the start of its aggression against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the territory's Government Press Office reported today.
In a statement, the institution specified that the latest incident occurred last night, when photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi died in a drone attack while filming the consequences of destruction in the southern city of Khan Younis.
In that raid, journalist Muhammad Abdul Fattah Aslih, brother of fellow communicator Hassan Aslih, also killed by Israel, was also wounded.
The Office condemned the attacks against the sector and called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists and other similar bodies to take action against such crimes.
We hold Israel, the US administration, and the countries implicated in the genocide, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for these violations.
It is necessary to exert firm and effective pressure to stop the genocide, protect media professionals in the Gaza Strip, and stop their murder, it stressed.
In 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded the Guillermo Cano Prize to Palestinian journalists covering the conflict in recognition of their work.
Last month, the Palestinian National Council accused Israel of making journalists in the occupied territories a direct target of its attacks in order to silence the truth and cover up its crimes.
It also criticized Israel's refusal to allow international press access to Gaza after the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
Such actions constitute a flagrant violation of international norms, including the right to freedom of opinion and expression and access to information, it stressed. (Text and photo: PL)
