Camagüey, Dec 11. - From December 18 to 21, the City of Tinajones (Earthenware jars) will become the epicenter of young Cuban cinema with the holding of the 35th edition of the Audiovisual Showcase El Almacén de la Imagen.
This event, sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS, for its acronym in Spanish) of Camagüey, has established itself as one of the main spaces for audiovisual creativity in Cuba by offering a platform for new generations of filmmakers seeking to make a place for themselves in the cultural landscape.
Over four days, the city will host a notable selection of 60 works in competition, covering the genres of short films, documentaries, and music videos. This competition has earned a privileged place in the local cultural calendar for its ability to showcase emerging talent, which, since its first edition, became a beacon of innovation and originality within national cinematography.

One of the most anticipated moments of the Showcase will be the opening ceremony, which will pay tribute to the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic, for its acronym in Spanish), accompanied by a show inspired by the iconic short film 20 Years, setting the tone for the days of screenings and meetings to follow.
The historical relationship between Icaic and Cuban filmmakers is undeniable, and this gesture reinforces the event's commitment to preserving and promoting the island's cinematic memory.
In addition to the screenings, El Almacén de la Imagen will offer a series of specialized workshops aimed at enriching the knowledge of creators.

Among them, the Screenwriting workshop, taught by the experienced Amílcar Salatti, and the Portfolio Production workshop, led by the renowned Rosa María Rodríguez, stand out. These initiatives provide technical tools, foster the exchange of ideas, and create networks among young filmmakers, strengthening the development of contemporary and pluralistic cinema.
Also notable is the premiere of the documentary La Tierra de la Ballena, by director Armando Capó, a work that promises to offer a unique and in-depth vision on a rarely explored topic, with a narrative approach that unites the tradition and contemporaneity of Cuban communities.
Marianne Portuondo Méndez, a member of the Organizing Committee, explained that 15 awards will be given, including the Luces de la Ciudad, in addition to collateral recognitions that this year include one awarded by the Union of Journalists of Cuba in Camagüey, an example of collaboration between both organizations that strengthens scientific and cultural ties.

Throughout its history, El Almacén de la Imagen has proven to be much more than a simple film festival; it has become a key space for the training, visibility, and growth of new generations of filmmakers.
With its focus on youth creation, the Showcase stands as a true engine of change that drives young Cuban cinema and offers filmmakers the opportunity to present their work to a broad and diverse audience.
This meeting, organized by the AHS of Camagüey, remains a fundamental pillar in the evolution of cinema in Cuba, reflecting the creativity of young people and the nation's ability to generate cinematic proposals that break with conventions and explore other forms of storytelling.

With a program rich in proposals and an atmosphere of collaboration, El Almacén de la Imagen once again positions itself as an essential event for all lovers of film and culture in Cuba. (Text: Idaylén Rodríguez Rodríguez/Radio Cadena Agramonte, Photos: AHS Camagüey)
