Camagüey, tourist season, quality, international markets

Tourism in Cuba focuses on Camagüey

Camagüey, December 18. - Camagüey is enhancing its preparations for the high tourist season, betting today on a recovery that challenges shortages, focusing on quality and the diversification of international markets.

The province, home to more than 20 percent of Cuba's beaches, shows a sustained recovery of foreign visitors, with a notable presence of Russian travelers and expectations for new influxes.

The infrastructure is being prepared in coordination with the Ignacio Agramonte International Airport, which will resume direct commercial operations starting in December, crucial for tourists to set foot directly in the territory.

Specialized training is a pillar: the Formatur School graduates approximately 125 professionals annually in cooking, reception, and gastronomy, with 62 percent of its teachers holding master’s degrees and campuses in beach resorts.

The strategy includes strong language proficiency and a diploma in Administration for young people, ensuring the service standards demanded by international tourism.

In terms of investments, the Cubanacán chain operates five hotels with foreign brands such as Resonant and Sanctuary, following investments exceeding 300 million pesos since 2024.

Notable is the reopening of the Costa Blanca Hotel in Santa Lucía and the reactivation of 35 percent of the Tararaco hotel facility, consolidating this sun and beach destination.

Promotion is being revitalized with campaigns such as Motivos Cubanacán, aimed at promoting local culture, and attracting groups from Canada, Argentina, and other regions.

The province is expanding its offerings beyond sun and beach, integrating city tourism—with its Historic Center, a World Heritage Site—as well as rural and event tourism.

Science and innovation projects, such as the sustainable tourism product Cliente Azul and the transition to renewable energy sources, set the trend.

The territorial delegation of Tourism is working with the University of Camagüey to exploit potentialities, identifying farms for new product designs.

With this comprehensive strategy, Camagüey solidifies its profile as a diverse destination, ready for a high season that prioritizes quality and international integration. (Text and photo: PL)
