The Yaloven: The ship that brought security in the Cuban victory

Nuevitas, Camagüey, Dec 25.- The Municipal Museum of Nuevitas features seven exhibition halls where visitors can enjoy a wide variety of objects and documents dating from primitive communities to the time of the Revolution in power. However, without a doubt, the most attractive exhibit for visitors is the ship Yaloven, a witness to the landing at Santa Rita beach by Commander Faure Chomón and a group of members from the Revolutionary Directorate 13 of March.

Doris Castro, a master’s degree holder in sciences and a specialist at the museum, states:

“The Yaloven is the most important object in the Municipal Museum of Nuevitas, and indeed one of the most valuable objects. It has its own dedicated room and is one of the most visited, especially by children and young people.

It truly draws a lot of attention to see a ship at life size. It is an object of exceptional value, not only because of its participation in historical events but also because there are not many places in Cuba that have a ship on permanent display.”

The preservation of the Yaloven to ensure it remains one of the main attractions of the Municipal Museum of Nuevitas is a priority for the cultural sector in the area and for the institution itself. (Text and photo: Radio Nuevitas)
