Camagüey, Dec 26. - This Friday, Camagüey province celebrated the 38th anniversary of the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture Movement, an initiative that has been fundamental in boosting food production and strengthening local food security.
The commemoration took place at the Tínima Organopónico, recognized as the largest of its kind in all of Cuba, covering 27.26 hectares with 1,056 productive plots. This emblematic space served as the venue for an event that brought together political and governmental authorities of the province, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, who recognized the work of the protagonists of this important community effort.
During the event, tribute was paid both individually and collectively to those producers and entities who, despite the challenges faced in 2025, achieved outstanding results in the production of vegetables and other fresh foods.

In total, awards were presented to seven outstanding producers from the municipalities of Guáimaro, Santa Cruz del Sur, Florida, and Camagüey. Furthermore, three organopónicos from the provincial capital: El Centro, El Olivo, and Saratoga, were distinguished for their outstanding performance during the year.
Special recognition was given to the collective of the Mariana Grajales Giant Organopónico, in the municipality of Esmeralda, which was distinguished as the best in its category in the entire province.
Likewise, the work of the municipalities of Camagüey, Florida, and Guáimaro was highlighted, the latter particularly for the favorable results obtained during the three visits made by the National Urban Agriculture Group throughout the year, which demonstrate the commitment and perseverance in implementing this agricultural modality.

This gathering not only served to honor the workers and entities that have significantly contributed to the production of fresh vegetables and condiments but also reaffirmed the province's commitment to sustainable agriculture and food security.
The celebration reaffirmed the importance of continuing to work on promoting agricultural practices that benefit both communities and the environment, consolidating Camagüey as a reference in this productive modality in Cuba. (Text and photos: Gleibis Gómez Durva / Radio Cadena Agramonte)
