Camagüey, Jan. 1st.- The Siboney sugar mill, located in the municipality of Sibanicú in Camagüey, has become the first in Cuba to start its grinders, marking the beginning of the 2025-2026 sugar harvest in the country.
With the start of its industrial operations, the facility has committed to producing more than four thousand tons of raw sugar over 61 days of grinding. To achieve this, it has approximately 63,000 tons of sugarcane at its disposal, which will be primarily supplied by the production units linked to the mill.
Once this main stage is completed, they will process an additional 20,000 tons of cane to obtain 1,500 tons of molasses (meladura). This strategy has proven effective in previous seasons, generating economic income that directly benefits the workers.
Currently, 385 sugar workers are employed at the mill on a stable basis. Their goal is not only to meet production targets but also to contribute energy to the National Electro-energetic System.
In the coming days, the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes sugar mill will join the Siboney at the start of the campaign, with a goal of producing 10,000 tons of sugar. These two enterprises from Camagüey are part of the national effort to recover this strategic sector for the country's economy.
As smoke rises once again from its chimney, the Siboney mill in Sibanicú does more than just restart production; it provides the starting signal for the entire nation's sugar campaign. (Text: Jorge Enrique Jerez Belisario/Granma Digital) (Photo: Archive/Internet)
