Uneac reaffirms support for Venezuela at Cultural Gathering

Havana, Jan. 8. - The Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (Uneac, for its acronym in Spanish) reiterated its support for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and condemned the military aggression by the United States against that South American nation during a meeting held in the organization's Villena Hall.

Marta Bonet, president of Uneac, told Prensa Latina that the institution will stand by the homeland and in defense of just causes, as part of its 65th anniversary and the centenary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

"We are living through a cruel and violent stage," she noted, "which shows us that we are facing a ruthless fascism that goes against everything and everyone."

The leader recalled that Fidel founded the organization in 1961, shortly after the revolutionary triumph, and emphasized that this tradition has accompanied Uneac throughout six decades.

This Wednesday, at La Tertulia space, with the panel Historical Culture in Revolution: The Legacy of Fidel, participants expressed their condemnation of the U.S. attack that occurred on January 3 in Venezuelan territory.

The meeting became a platform to evoke Fidel's contributions to human history and reaffirm that Uneac remains faithful to his ideals, standing with the homeland and in defense of sovereignty.

Bonet urged denouncing imperialism through all cultural expressions and recalled Cuba's internationalist vocation, marked by the participation and loss of 32 combatants in defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The organization ratified that Cuban intellectuals and artists will remain steadfast in defense of socialism and will accompany the Party and the Revolution in the processes to come. (Source: ACN)
