Havana, Jan 9. - The Varadero resort will host the I Continental Triathlon Cup, included in the international calendar this year, the Cuban sports publication Jit reported today.
This event, scheduled for June 7, joins the Havana Triathlon on February 21 at the Hemingway Marina, reaffirming the island as a venue with the potential to host high-level championships in this discipline.
Alejandro Puerto, president of the Cuban Federation of the sport, commented that these competitions will help local elite athletes arrive in optimal athletic form for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
"We must also participate in other international events to accumulate points towards the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles," stated the also national commissioner.
Depending on financial availability, Cuban triathletes could compete in the Continental Cup in Argentina on March 28 and in a similar one in Salinas, Ecuador, during April.
Puerto emphasized that the international calendar includes events of that level in Mexico and Guatemala, in addition to the Pan American Championship of the sport on May 30 in Asunción, Paraguay. (Source: Prensa Latina)
