Camagüey, investments, Electrical Worker's Day, photovoltaic park, electricity generation

Various activities in Camagüey commemorate Electrical Workers' Day

Camagüey, January 12 - With the precedent of a year of great tension in 2025, the electrical workers of the province arrive this January 14th on their day committed to stabilizing services and supporting new photovoltaic investments.

Since 1977, Cuba has celebrated Electrical Workers' Day to commemorate the intervention of Antonio Guiteras Holmes, then Secretary of the Interior, on the same date in 1934, in what was then called the Cuban Electricity Company.

Currently, the presence of members of the Energy and Mines Union is felt in the construction of the La Cívica photovoltaic park, north of the provincial capital. This will be the second such park in Camagüey, preceded by Luaces, in the municipality of Vertientes, which is fully operational.

Electricity generation in Cuba is achieved from six main sources: thermoelectric plants, gas turbines, diesel and fuel oil power generation units, hydroelectric, wind, and photovoltaic.

By agreement of the sector's union executive, the provincial event will take place on Wednesday the 14th at the Geysel Base Business Unit, which has eight power plants, six of which are in operation in several municipalities of the Camagüey territory.
