Cuba: Aggression against Venezuela opened era of barbarism and neo-fascism

Havana, Jan 16.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated today that with the attack on Venezuela, the administration of Donald Trump opened the door to an era of barbarism, plunder, and neo-fascism, regardless of the cost in destruction and death.

During the second day of tributes to the 32 combatants who fell in the Bolivarian nation, the president pointed out that the promoters of the attack and the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife wove a thick cloud of lies and defamation against the Bolivarian leaders.

The head of state reiterated that the aggression completely disregarded the limits of international law, which until that day had guaranteed a minimum of civilized coexistence among nations, by launching a cowardly assault on Venezuela.

"For more than 25 years, Cuba and Venezuela have shared ideals and works in favor of a better possible world, determined to conquer all justice through the paths of socialism, but each country with its own methods and different realities," Díaz-Canel emphasized.

The president stressed that only those who are unaware of the value of friendship and solidarity can confuse the relationship between Cubans and Venezuelans as a mere business arrangement.

"Above all, Cubans and Venezuelans are brothers," he affirmed.

Regarding the 32 Cuban combatants who fell during the aggression, he highlighted that U.S. officials have recognized with astonishment and admiration the bravery of this handful of men who, at a marked disadvantage, offered fierce resistance to the kidnappers, injuring several and partially disabling one of their transport vehicles.

"Our brave combatants, with conventional weapons and with no more body armor than their morals and loyalty, fought to the death and struck their adversaries. None were supermen; they were soldiers of honor, trained in the ethical school of Fidel and Raúl," he stated.

The president also responded to recent threats from the U.S. government, pointing out that the Secretary of State tacitly admitted the extreme levels to which the blockade against Cuba has escalated. "Entering and destroying the place is what, according to their imperial conception, they have left to subdue us," he denounced.

Díaz-Canel quoted the National Hero, José Martí, to define the island's patriotism: "Love of homeland is not the ridiculous love of the land, it is the invincible hatred of those who oppress it, it is the eternal rancor toward those who attack it." (Source: Prensa Latina)
