Brazilian caravan participants reaffirm solidarity with Cuba

Havana, Jan 20. - A caravan composed of 44 Brazilian friends and some from other nations reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba on Monday in the face of imperial threats, as well as with Palestine and all just causes, during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, for its acronym in Spanish).

This is the third group of its kind organized by young activist Thiago Avila, a prominent Brazilian supporter of the Caribbean island and one of the protagonists of the Freedom Flotillas to break the blockade on Gaza, who was detained during that action while maintaining his steadfastness against the genocide.

Fernando González Llort, president of ICAP, thanked the caravan participants for their presence during complex times for the country, in which over two million Cubans have just paid tribute to their 32 heroes who died in an uneven battle against the Yankee enemy while defending Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

"These have been days of sadness but also of revolutionary reaffirmation and the patriotic spirit of a people determined to defend sovereignty at any necessary cost in the face of imperial threats," he emphasized.

He denounced the U.S. economic war against Cuba, carried out to extremes, and stated that after years of denying the existence of the blockade, U.S. President Donald Trump, with his arrogance, now declares and acknowledges that they cannot exert more pressure against the island and the only possibility is to invade and destroy it.

"But the macabre design of the United States to defeat the Revolution has not worked for over 60 years, and it will not work for them," he asserted, reiterating gratitude to the international solidarity movement that has always supported Cuba.

During the meeting, Thiago Avila expressed resolute support for the Cuban people and the purpose of continuing to promote travel to the island "because when people visit the country, they learn its truth, are impressed, and learn. Cuba is the most solidarity-driven country in the world," he affirmed.

According to the 12-day program, the caravan participants will take part in the March of the Torches, visit the Fidel Castro Center, the Scientific Pole, and places of historical interest in Matanzas, Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, and Cienfuegos. (Text and photo: ACN)
