Díaz-Canel held meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation

Havana, Jan 21. – The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, described the visit of Police General Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev, Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, and the delegation accompanying him, as "of enormous significance" due to "the moment in which it is taking place."

"Thank you very much for being in Cuba," expressed the President to Kolokoltsev upon greeting him at the entrance of the meeting room in the Palace of the Revolution, where both delegations held talks. The high-ranking military officer of the Russian Federation, in turn, expressed his satisfaction at being once again on the Island, where he has dear friends.

This visit —added Díaz-Canel— is yet another expression of all the sensitivity of the Russian Federation, the party, the government, the armed institutions, and yourself. There is sensitivity, understanding of our situation, and a willingness to help and cooperate.

The Head of State emphasized the relevance of the stay of the Russian Minister of Internal Affairs and his companions to exchange views on the complex global situation, in the area of Latin America and the Caribbean, and particularly in Cuba.

He recalled that during the previous visit of General Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev in November 2023, our country was facing the tightening of the blockade, a broad campaign of media disinformation, and the impacts of its inclusion on the spurious list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism. All of that —he noted— persists today, but with greater complexity and a situation significantly impacted by the events of January 3rd.

Participating in the meeting between the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Police General Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, were Army Corps General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, Minister of Internal Affairs, and Brigadier General Jesús Burón Tabit, Deputy Minister, among other heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On the Russian side, Víctor Koronelli, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cuba, and Major General of Internal Services Alexandr A. Nikolaev, Head of the Minister's Secretariat, among other high-ranking officials of the institution, were in attendance. (Text and Photo: Presidencia Cuba)
