Government body in Florida rejects imperial threats and analyzes social issues

Florida, Camagüey, Feb 3 – Delegates present at the twenty-sixth Ordinary Session of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Florida unanimously approved a public declaration condemning and rejecting the new aggression by the United States government against the Cuban people, considering it an affront to the country’s sovereignty and a genocidal attempt to destroy the Revolution by worsening living conditions and inflicting suffering on the popular masses.

The statement by the highest state and local government body referred to the Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump, which pressures third countries to block oil supplies to Cuba and threatens to impose tariffs on products from those who violate this infamous imperial provision.

During their plenary meeting, the representatives of the people of Florida continued the day’s agenda with a debate on shortcomings in compliance with the provisions of Resolution 111 concerning the operation of the banking process.

Opinions on the topic called for greater control, organization, and responsiveness to the problems and demands of workers, retirees, and other citizens regarding the use of payment gateways, the deposit of cash in banks by non-state sector actors, and malfunctions in the operation of automated teller machines at the Bank of Credit and Commerce (BANDEC, for its acronym in Spanish).

Also on the agenda of the ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power held this Saturday were the evaluation of the response to complaints and petitions from the people of Florida during 2025 and the state of criminal activity and social indiscipline at the close of the fourth quarter of that same year.

According to the discussion, the territory still has gaps in crime prevention and confrontation activities, shortcomings in administrative and community surveillance, and serious indiscipline in the conduct of not a few families regarding the supervision, protection, and upbringing of their children. As an example, the 1,200 young people in Florida over the age of 16 who currently do not possess an updated identity document were cited.

Added to the governmental debate at this level were a report on sports activities carried out in the previous calendar year—a task of the Sports Sector and other actors that, according to delegates, demands the recovery of facilities intended for the mass practice of physical activity, support to reach the grassroots or participate in higher-level events, constant encouragement for professionals and technicians in the sector, and public recognition for their daily dedication in each mission and place where they work.

The most recent ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Florida also heard the Accountability Report of the Argentina People’s Council and expressed agreement with the annual evaluation of the officials currently holding the Vice Presidency and Secretary positions of that local body.

Similarly, by the unanimous vote of the People’s Power delegates, the replacement of Ormandys Rodríguez Sánchez as Mayor of Florida and his permanent removal from the local government entity were approved, due to serious violations committed against the Code of Ethics in his performance as a cadre of the Revolution and the State in the territory.

On the same topic of Cadre Movements, the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Florida endorsed the inclusion of new members in its Municipal Administration Council.
