512th Anniversary Distinctions awarded in Camagüey

Camagüey, Feb 4 - A day of profound significance unfolded today with the presentation of the 512th Anniversary Distinctions, a tribute to individuals and institutions whose work and dedication are fundamental to the social, cultural, and economic development of the Camagüey’s territory.

The ceremony was held in the Nicolás Guillén Protocol Hall, located in the Revolution Square Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, a space that hosts this event annually during Camagüey's Culture Week.

The City Anniversary Distinction, awarded since 1994 by the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, aims to recognize those entities and individuals who have left a significant mark on the history of the city.

On this occasion, distinguished local cultural figures were honored, including the Camagua Folkloric Company, the Professional Choir, and the Symphony Orchestra. Also recognized were key actors in social life, such as agricultural production cooperatives, jurists, and constituencydelegates.

Camagüey’s broadcaster and actor Javier del Toro, one of the honorees, highlighted that this recognition represents a renewed commitment to cultural endeavors. "It is an incentive to work towards promoting art in the city," he expressed, reflecting the spirit of many awardees who, from different fronts, drive local progress.

For his part, Álvaro Yaxcel Lescaille Thomas, director of the Provincial Film Center, who received the 512th Anniversary Distinction for the impact of the Film Criticism Workshop, emphasized the national prestige this event has achieved. "The workshop positions Camagüey within the Cuban audiovisual landscape," he noted, adding that this year's event will be dedicated to the work of its founders, who are key figures in the evolution of audiovisual art in the country.

The distinction looks not only to the past but also to the present and future of the city. Throughout the remainder of Camagüey's Culture Week, other recognitions of this kind will be awarded to additional personalities and entities of significant social and cultural contribution.
