
Santa Cruz del Sur, Camagüey, Feb 12.- Arminda Ester Reyes López, Director of Technology and Development at the "Algérico Lara Correa" Southern Industrial Fishing Company (EPISUR, for its acronym in Spanish) in Santa Cruz del Sur, highlighted the recognition obtained in 2026 for the results achieved during the previous year. This stimulus—she affirmed—translates into a renewed commitment to strengthen production and contribute to the economic growth of the entity.
During the past calendar year, the company developed several forums where 32 innovations were presented, all successfully implemented. Among them, the work titled New marine assortments with alternative raw materials, by Yamina Andrés Molina, a member of the Industry Basic Business Unit (UEB, for its acronym in Spanish), achieved the category of relevant.
For his part, Jorge Navarro Pacheco, belonging to the EPISUR branch in Nuevitas, obtained the status of outstanding for the construction of an anti-siphon valve for a Solediesel SM-103 model engine.
Additionally, mentions were received by Manuel Hidalgo Matos, from the UEB Fishing Operations, for the recovery of the 220 Nauplius ferrocement; and Roger Esparraguera Ruiz, also from the Nuevitas entity, for his proposal of a new cooperative production strategy between the state socialist enterprise and the self-employed sector, in order to guarantee production continuity.
The director emphasized that all these innovators participated in the Forum of the Business Group of the fishing sector, held at the national level.
Reyes López also reported that EPISUR is currently collaborating on three projects. One of an international nature, jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aimed at improving biological diversity in the Gulf of Guacanayabo through the multitrophic cultivation of shrimp, sea cucumber, and oyster.
Likewise, progress is being made on the construction of an oyster farm, for which more than 1,500 collectors and other necessary implements for its assembly have already been manufactured. Simultaneously, conditions are being created for the mariculture of red tilapia, in collaboration with the Ignacio Agramonte University of Camagüey.
