MES turns 50 yearsold

Havana, Feb 18 - "For us, reaching the fiftieth anniversary of our organization, at the same time that the centenary of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, is celebrated, constitutes a very special motivation, since he was the main driver of university studies in our country," stated Doctor of Sciences Walter BalujaGarcía, Minister of Higher Education.

"At these times of great national and international complexity, Fidel's thoughts are motivation for us, they serve to correctly establish our priorities, which are, increasingly, trying to contribute to the country's development," he highlighted.

In exclusive statements to ACN and on the occasion of the presentation of high recognitions to professors and researchers from Higher Education centers, the minister pointed out that the science produced in universities constitutes an important contribution to national programs.

He emphasized that since the triumph of the Revolution, universities began to support the country's development and the creation of the new society based on the results of their science.

"These investigations were strengthened and matured based on the new human capital that the Revolution made sure was trained. Throughout these decades of revolutionary history, scientific centers were created within Higher Education, which responded to the country's development and defense priorities," he specified.

He also said that today they make important contributions to public health services, digital transformation, food sovereignty, and energy transition. "I must say that the main advisory group of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Electric Union is made up of experts from different universities in the country," he emphasized.

Doctor of Sciences BalujaGarcía emphasized that many examples could be mentioned, because the science produced in universities is increasingly relevant and responds to the real problems facing the nation. He also highlighted the dedicated work carried out by these professionals, as they do so under difficult conditions, "but they do not give it up, he said, because they want the country to continue dreaming of being truly independent and sovereign based on its own efforts and results," he concluded.

The MES, Ministry of Higher Education and its network of centers will turn 50 years old next July. At the triumph of the Revolution, the country had only three universities: Oriente, Central de Las Villas, and Havana, and today it has Higher Education centers in all provinces, including Municipal University Colleges.
