New round of negotiations begins between United States and Iran

Muscat, Feb 26.- The Government of Oman today announced the start of a new round of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran in Geneva, Switzerland, to address Tehran's nuclear program and other pending matters between the two nations.

Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported in a statement that Chancellor Badr Al-Busaidi met in Geneva with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, as part of ongoing consultations regarding the Iranian nuclear file.

According to the official note, the meeting included an exchange of views on technical issues linked to Iran's nuclear program and new ideas being negotiated between the Iranian and American parties, without offering further details.

The statement specified that the meeting coincided with the beginning of a new round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington.

During the dialogue with Grossi, the head of Omani diplomacy stressed the importance of the IAEA's professional and technical role, as well as the need to guarantee transparency, credibility and good governance of procedures related to the nuclear file.

According to the Iranian press, the talks are taking place at the Omani Embassy in Geneva.

The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while the US representation is led by the presidential envoy for the Middle East, Steve Wittkopf.

The day before, Al-Busaidi and his Iranian counterpart held a meeting in Geneva in which they examined, according to Muscat, "the proposals that Tehran will present in the third round of talks," without details on the content of these initiatives emerging.

Talks between the two parties resumed on February 6 in Oman, after having been suspended following Israeli-American attacks against Iran in June 2025. The second round, also sponsored by the sultanate, was held on February 18 in Geneva.

Washington demands that Tehran completely cease uranium enrichment, remove already enriched material from Iranian territory, and abandon its ballistic missile program, while threatening the use of military force.

In recent weeks, the United States has reinforced its military presence in the Middle East, amid warnings about possible actions against Iran to force it to abandon its nuclear and missile programs, as well as support for its regional allies.

For its part, Tehran considers that Washington and Israel fabricate pretexts to justify intervention and regime change, and warns that it will respond to any military aggression, even limited, while insisting on the lifting of Western economic sanctions in exchange for verifiable restrictions on its nuclear program.
