Cuba will organize three international badminton tournaments

Havana, Mar 2.- Cuba will organize three international badminton tournaments at the Coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva during the month of March and the first week of April.

The calendar will open with the First Havana International Youth Tournament, from the 5th to the 8th as competition dates, since the technical meeting and training sessions are scheduled for Wednesday the 4th.

José Daniel Baz Morán, methodologist of the national commission, added that foreign athletes from Colombia, Paraguay, Bulgaria and Honduras have already registered, while Cuba's best exponents of that category are preparing.

This event will award points for the world youth ranking, with a view to the world championship and panamerican championship of that age group, among other international events.

The next competition will be the traditional Giraldilla de La Habana, created over two decades ago, between March 10th and 15th, for which 54 players from 14 nations have formalized their presence.

We will see in action, together with the hosts, representatives from Canada, the United States, El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia and Paraguay, as well as Bulgaria and Portugal, Baz Morán revealed to JIT.

As every year, the Giraldilla will award units to the universal adult ranking and points for the qualifying process towards the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

The closing will be from March 31st to April 5th, when another new event will take place in the Largest of the Antilles, the First Cuba International Series, characterized by its highest rank, and for which 60 racket players from 14 countries have already signed up.

It is very important, even of a higher level than the Giraldilla, and among the participants, some are among the top 70 in the world ranking. The incursion into this type of tournament, which includes cash prizes, means a lot for our sport, José Daniel pointed out.

Like the Giraldilla, it also awards points for the world adult ranking list, and is the penultimate event of the qualifying process for the Santo Domingo 2026 Games, which closes after the 29th edition of the individual Panamerican Championship, again in Lima, Peru. (Text and photo: JIT)
