Havana, September 27.- The 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) will begin today at the Convention Palace of this capital.
Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the CDR, recently commented that among the topics to be discussed at the meeting, attention to the tasks of the economy, revolutionary surveillance and preventive work, as well as ideological work and care for children stand out, adolescents and young people.
He highlighted that in the current context of Cuban society, the organization needs to be revitalized by improving the cadre policy, the role of grassroots and area leaders, as well as the incorporation of young people into community tasks with their new ways of thinking and doing.
The Hero of the Republic also pointed out that other topics related to the work of the CDR will be addressed, such as actions to support the economy through voluntary blood donations, joint work with the family doctor and nurse, collection of raw materials, the production of food from the CDR movement from the Cultiva tu Pedacito neighborhood, the cleaning and sanitization of the neighborhoods, the support for different productive tasks, the saving of energy carriers, among others.
Emphasis will be placed, said Hernández Nordelo, on surveillance, prevention, ideological work and attention to children, adolescents and young people from accompaniment to families to eliminate illegalities, crime and social indiscipline.
He highlighted that a fundamental theme will be that of neighborhoods in transformation, a program that seeks improvements in the quality of life of the inhabitants and the communities in general, since it constitutes the epicenter where they develop as individuals.
Attention to people in vulnerable situations such as single mothers with three or more children, those with physical-motor and intellectual disabilities, as well as elderly people who live alone will also occupy the debates during this September 27 and 28.
The 10th Congress of the CDR, the largest mass organization in the Greater Antilles, will bring together 480 delegates from all over the national territory and around 120 guests in the capital.
The event will salute the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the committees on September 28, 1960, by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. (Text and photo: ACN)
