Beijing, 23 oct.- The Chinese press condemns the US blockade against Cuba and today denounces its responsibility for the energy emergency that the island has faced.
The Global Times published an illustration to show how this commercial, economic and financial encirclement is closely linked to the collapse of the country’s electricity system by preventing access to oil sources.
Media such as CGTN and Xinhua also published information on the situation that the island experienced, highlighting the negative consequences of these sanctions, as well as the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism drawn up by Washington.
The Chinese had previously expressed their support for Havana in the current energy emergency and urged the removal of the blockade.
In a statement to Prensa Latina, the businessman Huang Qiao Ming (Simon) said that the US siege is unfair and represents a great difficulty for international trade.
However, he expressed the willingness to find alternatives to break this blockade that currently embodies an economic and financial war against the Caribbean nation.
Trust, unity and technology, Simon argued, pointing to the importance of working together and being aware that a better future is possible despite this encirclement.
The Chinese film director, Yin Dawei, repudiated the US blockade policy against Cuba and expressed his firm opposition to this encirclement. In statements to Prensa Latina, he said that even if the northern country wants to block the island, it cannot prevent the Cuban people from relating to the world.
The Asian Giant’s Foreign Ministry expressed its support for the Cuban people and government, while rejecting the blockade against the island.
In response to a question from the Latin Press, spokesman Lin Jian stated that according to the principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms of international law, Washington must immediately lift this siege, remove sanctions as soon as possible and remove the Caribbean country from the list of States sponsoring terrorism.
This is in the interest of the United States, Cuba, both peoples, promotes regional stability and development, and is what the wider international community supports, he added.
He reiterated that China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers and that Beijing is aware of the difficulties facing the island at this time.
We believe that, under the strong leadership of the Cuban Communist Party, the Cuban people will surely overcome this difficult moment and advance their socialist cause, he noted.
After its recovery from the collapse, the energy sector of the island currently presents better prospects with the synchronization of the National Electricity System and the incorporation of new units. (Text and photo: PL)
