Camagüey, Cuba

Elderly care, priority of the Cuban Revolution

The elderly care program is strengthened in the province of Camagüey through specialized medical assistance and the development of promotion, prevention and rehabilitation actions in Nursing Homes and Grandparents' Houses, in order to promote healthy aging.

These health institutions work as preventive interventions with the purpose of modifying aging consequences, dependence and mortality, which include occupational therapy through fraying, dance therapy, board games and creation workshops that strengthen physical activity. and mental health.

The province also has a training program for these people, which favors continuous and permanent education, with the aim of updating old people.

This is possible thanks to the political will of the Revolutionary Government and the effort of the Directorate of Health in the territory to guarantee the care of that age group, and to support the difficulties faced by the family, since many of its members must leave their job, to take care of the elderly.

Cuban demographers predict that by 2030, the number of Cubans over 60 would amount to 25%, that is, a quarter of the total population of 11.1 million.(Maykel Torres La Rosa / Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photos: Humberto Cid González)
