New generations of Camagüeyans star in homage to Ignacio Agramonte


Camagüey, May 9. - New generations are protagonists of several of the activities that take place in Camagüey to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the fall in combat of Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, occurred on May 11, 1873.

To await for the date, a hundred and a half young people will camp in the Potrero de Jimaguayú, place where the event happened; meanwhile, in these days will be developed special morning to evoke the life and work of the hero in work centers and educational, said Yaimyr Victoria Basulto, head of the Ideological Department of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

In the Agramonte's Birthplace, which is 50 years old, you can see works that Joel Jover Llenderroso recently dedicated to El Mayor; while the outstanding researcher José Fernando Crespo Baró will give a conference there on the 10th, and the 11th will be the launch of the Diamond with the soul of a kiss contest, in conjunction with the José Martí Cultural Society.

This last institution organizes for today Tuesday the Agramonte in Martí conversation, in the Assembly Hall of the former Institute of Second Education, today Urban Preuniversitary Álvaro Morell, and in coordination with the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey (OHCC) Students from various institutions will perform honor guard in the park that bears the name of the one who starred in the feat of the rescue of Brigadier Julio Sanguily.

Social networks and other virtual spaces will also evoke the trajectory of one of the leading figures in Cuban independence struggles: Ignacio Agramonte, with the hashtag #ElMayorVive, in reference to the legacy of the organizer of the famous cavalry that in these plains fought important battles in the Ten Years' War.
