Federation of Cuban Women denounces political violence against the poet Nancy Morejón

Havana, Jun 3.- The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) issued a statement to denounce the hatred and persecution of which several representatives of Cuban culture are objects, and, in particular, the poet and National Literature Award winner Nancy Morejon.

Morejón has recently been the target of pressure from enemies of the Revolution to prevent her from participating in the 2023 Poetry Market, an event held in Paris next June and of which she was elected honorary president.

Due to its importance, the Cuban News Agency fully shares the FMC's statement, published on the website of the magazine Mujeres.

Declaration of the FMC against the political violence against the poet Nancy Morejón

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) denounces the hatred and persecution of those who are objects of representatives of Cuban culture.

Today the manifestations of political violence once again attack art, this time against the poet, essayist and literary critic Nancy Morejón, who was deprived of her status as honorary president at the 2023 Poetry Market in Paris, which will take place between next June 7 and 12.

This fact constitutes another attack of the cultural war against Cuba, against a woman who has accompanied and shared the battles of Cuban women for their emancipation, who has followed with her poetic work dreams and challenges that go beyond our borders, a black woman who for years it has been committed to the fight for peace, against racism and social and gender inequalities and for the freedom of peoples.

The campaigns, orchestrated out of hatred by characters who do not see beyond antipathy and money at the cost of everything, reproduce nonsense of dark lists and short lights, but in the midst of this escalation of violent confrontations and persecution on social networks, oppressing the artistic freedom and expression of those who defend the ideas of the Revolution, voices of solidarity are raised with Nancy and other figures of our culture.

That is why today we meet to show solidarity with this Cuban, recognized as one of the great female voices of Latin American poetry.

From their Twitter accounts, the General Secretary of the FMC and the user FMC - Cuba, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged that: Solidarity, peace and commitment to art will continue to be the premises of our artists, in the face of violence, impunity, fascism and the prevailing cultural colonization; and the unconditional support and affection for the distinguished poet and essayist.

“Dear Nancy, you are not alone #Cuba is with you. Injustice and hatred cannot face your prestige and professionalism."
