Cuba and the Dominican Republic strengthen ties in the sports field


Santo Domingo, June 20.- The president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller, and Franklin Domingo de la Mota, vice minister of sports of the Dominican Republic, held a fruitful exchange that strengthened relations between both countries.

Vento Montiller expressed Cuba's willingness to resume collaboration in sports matters with the Caribbean nation, whose capital will be the sub-venue of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.

The Cuban leader conveyed a message of solidarity and trust, and wished him success in this commitment to the regional event that will be held simultaneously from June 23 to July 8.

He also expressed Cuba's interest in collaborating with the organization of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for the neighboring island in 2026.

Vento extended the invitation for the First International Sports Fair, which will take place in Havana from July 31 to August 4, as well as for the X International Convention on Physical Activity and Sports (AFIDE), from November 27 to 30, this year.

In the meeting, during which they exchanged about the culture and history that unite the two countries, Vento praised the excellent conditions of the facilities for the seven sports convened in Santo Domingo, which he verified during a two-day tour of the capital of Quisqueyan .

Domingo de la Mota, for his part, stated that he was very happy with the visit and that relations between the two islands are closer, and he thanked the Cuban people for supporting the sport.

Vento Montiller led the first group of 35 people from the Cuban delegation that arrived in Santo Domingo on Sunday. He was accompanied by Gisleidy Sosa, INDER's Director of International Relations, as well as the women's field hockey team, which will fight to maintain its Central Caribbean crown.

Precisely in the afternoon, he held a meeting with the hockey players, among them two players who already have two gold medals and aspire to the third title in these regional games.

This Tuesday, the head of INDER travels to El Salvador, where he will lead the Cuban sports mission at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023. (Text and photo: JIT)
