Prime Minister insists on expediting the process of recovering housing in Cuba

Havana, June 23.- The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, evaluated this Thursday the process of recovering homes affected by Hurricane Ian in 2022 and the heavy rainfall that hit the eastern part of the country in recent days.

During a meeting with the governors of the Caribbean nation, Marrero insisted on the need to increase the pace of work, particularly in the western province of Pinar del Río, whose housing fund was severely affected by Ian, national television reported.

"A different strategy must be drawn up to speed up the recovery, which is not going at the pace demanded by the population and which we should have already achieved," he stressed.

He pointed out that given the limitations that the island faces, the local production of construction materials should be promoted, based on the characteristics of the municipalities.

The Head of Government urged to turn the recovery actions into a stimulus and additional effort to advance in other similar tasks.

He also indicated that the link between the population and local authorities should be strengthened and initiatives should be promoted based on the needs of the territories.

In the meeting, headed by the president of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, and the vice president, Salvador Valdés, the housing plan corresponding to the month of May was also analyzed, as well as the approaches derived from surrender processes of accounts, as well as the care program for recreation and the insurance plan for the summer.

Regarding the activities of the summer season on the island, the Prime Minister indicated to monitor and control abusive prices that limit the access of children, adolescents and young people to economic and recreational offers.

In addition, it directed bringing entertainment options closer to localities and paying special attention to suburban, rural and difficult-to-access areas. (Text and photo: PL)
