Camagüey, June 24.- The Camagüeyan San Juan is ratified as the most deeply rooted of the celebrations of this central-eastern province, expression of popular and traditional culture.
On Cisneros street and the vicinity of the Ignacio Agramonte Park, the locals gathered in the last hours of this June 23 to start the festivity at midnight with the reading of the proclamation from the balconies of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power (AMPP).
Before the crowd, the deputy to the Cuban Parliament, Dixamy Rodríguez Gómez, president of the AMPP, explained that even in the complex and difficult economic circumstances of the nation, it was decided to hold the historic Camagüeyan San Juan in a moderate way, an event that defends the traditions and the features that distinguish the town from the smooth region of shepherds and hats.
In the same way, she called for working with love to preserve and defend those essences that make up the national identity and assured that the authorities will continue paying the utmost political and governmental attention to this celebration, of almost three centuries, for what it means in culture and values ??of the former Villa de Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.
The Folkloric Ballet of Camagüey, under the direction of Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada, offered its talent to the public, who enjoyed congas and comparsas in the inaugural parade, which was joined behind groups of their preferences by people of all ages.
This year the Camagüeyan San Juan foresees the walks on June 24, 25 and 26 from Avenida 26 de Julio to the Plaza de la Libertad, as well as festive areas with a majority presentation of local artistic talent, and the burial of San Pedro will bid farewell the revelry on the day of the 29th.
