Minas, Camagüey, July 24.—Moncada taught us to turn setbacks into victories, affirmed Gelcy Pacheco Puig, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish), during the provincial commemoration of the 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953.

The leader recalled that the Moncada Program transformed the sad socioeconomic situation in that town, which today shows tangible achievements, including zero infant mortality, seven careers at the Municipal University Center as part of the universalization of Higher Education, and the development of culture and sports as rights of the people.

In Minas, where Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz paved the way for independence, the residents are an example of resilience and dedication to building a better society, she noted.

Advancing the battle for efficiency and sustainable prosperity, she said, motivates the people of Minas, which is why intense days preceded the celebration of the anniversary. In this regard, she highlighted the efforts to promote agricultural development, correct distortions, and work on more than 260 construction objects for the benefit of the people.

The commemoration of National Rebellion Day in Minas served as motivation to meet physical production and net sales, among other economic indicators, in addition to advancing community transformation and preventive work.

At the event, several Camagüey’s natives, heirs to the lineage of the protagonists of the historic July 26th feat, received their PCC membership cards, while twelve other graduates of the Cándido González Morales Party Faculty received recognition for joining the political leadership as leaders in different structures.

Organizations such as the National Association of Small Farmers, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, as well as the National Office of Tax Administration, Education, Public Health, Communal Services, Culture, Sports, the Municipal University Center, and the Alevicuba Base Business Unit, among others, received incentives for contributing to the development and advances that today exhibits this locality.

Likewise, the highest authorities of the PCC and the government in the province praised the work of the municipalities of Vertientes, Nuevitas, and Camagüey for making progress in meeting key economic and social indicators.

The event also provided a space to pay tribute to Florida, a municipality that achieved the status of Outstanding based on the results it shows for three consecutive years in economic, productive and social programs; while Minas obtained the status of Vanguard for the efforts, results and loyalty of its people.

“Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz calls on us to defend the Revolution even in the most complex circumstances,” stated Walter Simón Noris, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, during the commemorative event for the 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.

He recognized the people of Camagüey, and especially those of Minas, for their unity and popular participation. "In the midst of the blockade facing the country, the province has not stopped, although the satisfaction of the people of Camagüey with regard to food production and marketing, as well as the more vigorous confrontation with abusive prices, has not yet been achieved.

During this period, progress was made in the creation of productive poles; however, it is essential to strengthen family backyards and self-consumption to advance toward food sovereignty,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the work of the productive bases, reducing cattle mortality, consolidating livestock modules, and contracting to ensure the committed per capita. (Digital Newsroom with information and photos from the People's Power Government of Camagüey)
