Camagüey, September 24.- The José Martí Brigade (BJM in Spanish), which in Camagüey groups 585 art instructors, has the duty to multiply the Apostle's ideology to safeguard the profession in schools, cultural centers and different community spaces, stated Emilio Toledo Mirabal, president of that cultural movement in the country.
When presiding over the provincial council, the national leader of the membership recalled that the BJM also assumes the mission of continuing the work dreamed of by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, of constituting the main guide to, from artistic creation, promote cultural identity and the most genuine traditions in the new generations of Camagüeyans.
With this purpose, although many of the necessary resources are not currently available to better develop this work, Leonides Maceo Rubio, Artistic Education methodologist in the municipality of Sibanicú, commented that in that town they have been maintaining the Arte Calle project for several years, focused mainly on the appreciation of the visual arts with great acceptance, especially among children.
Another positive experience was shared by Odalys Fernández Martínez, president of the BJM in the territory of Minas, because in that demarcation, she noted, it has been possible to articulate the characterized activities of art instructors with the cultural programming of libraries, museums, the Movement Juvenil Martiano and the José Martí Cultural Society, to reach the five popular councils, even in the midst of the complex energy situation facing the Island.
Likewise, in the period from January to September of this year, the BJM in Camagüey activated the 50th Anniversary Cultural Guerrilla to provide small and large format shows in areas with difficult access, neighborhoods in transformation and different social institutions, while consolidating alliances with the Office of the City Historian, the Provincial Book and Literature Center, the Provincial Cinema Center, the Hermanos Saíz Association and the Golpe a Golpe project, among other organizations.
Regarding the creation process, there are 361 representative artistic units in the province that include more than 1,800 fans and in the Escaramujo contest at the municipal, provincial and national level, Florida, Nuevitas, Jimaguayú, Najasa and the city of Camagüey.
However, the participants in the meeting agreed that the work of this movement can still be perfected if it aspires to achieve greater prominence in the creation festivals and in events where the technical-artistic work is evaluated, as well as incorporation into the improvement actions and the increase in projects where brigade members intervene.
