Havana, November 10 - "Fidel in the Caribbean: Images of a Revolutionary Presence" is the title of a photographic exhibition inaugurated at the Memorial of Denunciation, as part of the events commemorating his centennial in 2026. The exhibition aims to explore, from an artistic and documentary perspective, his relationship with the Caribbean region, his political impact, cultural influence, and, above all, his human dimension.
Lizette Martínez Luzardo, Vice Minister of Culture, and Alfredo Triay Colomé, Vice President of the Union of Historians of Cuba, respectively, attended the opening this Saturday. The exhibition's authors portray him not only as a head of state but as a symbol of unity, confrontation, and resistance against global powers, inviting reflection on the marks he has left on his history.
The Ministry of the Interior also reported on its website that the photographs represent "a reflection; it is not about celebrating or judging, but about looking carefully, about listening to what each image whispers to us, discovering in each frame a presence that continues to inhabit the visual memory of our Commander in Chief," emphasized Lissette Solorzano, curator of the exhibition and director of Cuba's Fototeca (Cuban Photo Library).
This exhibition represents another way to pay tribute to and underscore his leadership, not only with photographs of official visits, summits, or meetings with regional leaders, but also “with gestures, glances, and contexts that reveal the extraordinary figure of our eternal leader, as we approach the centenary of his birth.”
The activity was also an opportune moment for the presentation of the books To the Eternal Commander. Cuban Men and Women Remember Fidel; Fidel and Culture. Words to Writers, Artists, and Art Instructors; Fidel Castro. Minimal Anthology; and Guerrilla Women with Fidel. Memories of Seven Combatants of the Mariana Grajales Women's Platoon, from Ocean Sur, a Latin American publishing house.
The mission of this Memorial is to denounce to the world, with compelling evidence, the aggressions perpetrated by US governments against the Cuban people for over 60 years; to create and strengthen patriotic values and anti-imperialist convictions in new generations of Cubans; and to highlight the role of the people and their leaders in confronting imperialism and its mercenaries.
