Havana, October 30 - The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, for its acronym in Spanish) will begin accepting donations today for those affected by Hurricane Melissa at all of its provincial committees.
This is a UNEAC tradition; when there have been natural disasters or crisis situations in certain parts of the country, our members almost spontaneously request that the institution join the support campaigns, declared its vice president, Yuris Nórido, in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina.
In the capital, donations, which must be exclusively national, will be received at the International Relations Directorate of the headquarters, located at 17 and H Streets, in the Vedado area, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., local time, reported the head of the department, Miriam Miranda.
While there is no deadline for delivery, it is recommended to bring donations in the coming days and during the next week.
"We call upon our artists, creators, and those who are not, to make this one of the centers where they can bring their donations, taking advantage of our national network," said the institution's vice president.
"These are times for solidarity, resilience, and support; we do not see UNEAC as an entity separate from the social fabric; it is time to alleviate these tragedies to the best of our ability," urged Nórido.
Clothing, footwear, canned food and hygiene items are the priority of the request for support for the people affected by the onslaught of Melissa, which impacted the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Granma, Las Tunas and Holguín, in eastern Cuba, from south to north this Wednesday.
