López Obrador denounces complicity in crime in the State of Ayotzinapa

Mexico City, September 29.- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, denounced that there was a network of complicities surrounding the state crime of the 43 normalistas of Ayotzinapa.

The president extensively addressed the case in his morning press conference at the National Palace, when yesterday a very extensive report was given on the subject by the investigative commission chaired by Undersecretary of the Interior Alejandro Encinas.

We, he said, have to move forward, because the important thing is to know where the remains of the murdered young people are and deliver them to their families.

When talking about the network of complicities, he mentioned the OAS but without giving details, and said that it is very likely that the prosecutor's offices were also involved in the Ayotzinapa case and that a special prosecutor opposed the request for arrest warrants.

He reiterated that his government is carrying out a thorough investigation, and mentioned that former prosecutor Jesús Murillo Karam in the government of President Enrique Peña Nieto is detained, while the head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, Tomás Zerón, is a fugitive in Israel.

Previously, Encinas published an extensive report as a result of the discontent of the relatives of the 43 due to the delay in the process and the fact that among the mentioned culprits it does not appear who they consider to be the main person responsible, the former president Enrique Peña Nieto of whom Murillo and Zerón were subordinates.

According to the report of the presidency of the Commission for Truth and Access to Justice in the Ayotzinapa Case (CoVAJ in Spanish), headed by Encinas, Ayotzinapa was a state crime at the highest level.

It has been shown, he affirms, that the so-called historical truth was a construction - created by the federal government - to cover up the facts and legitimize and impose the official version of the incineration of the 43 students in the Cocula garbage dump and close the case.

The complicity of officials from the three levels of government and the concerted actions to hide the truth constitute a state crime, he reiterates, but does not mention Peña Nieto by name.

It does specify that this is the case of the board of authorities, chaired by the then President of the Republic (he is not mentioned by name), along with officials at the highest level of the government, which was directly responsible for the construction of the so-called historical truth. This operation at the highest level constitutes a second disappearance of the students due to the following evidence:

The omissions of the authorities who were informed at all times and allowed the violence and disappearance of the students. Participation with the criminal group in the disappearance of the normalistas. The manipulation and concealment of evidence and proof.

Also, the creation of crime scenes. Obtaining statements under torture. The protection of public servants who participated in the events. Lying to the victims' families and to society.

The historical truth was covered by institutional actions and communication that had the purpose of closing the investigations to, finaly close the case. (Text and photo: PL)
