Palestinian FM calls on world to stop Israeli attacks

Cairo, Oct 12.- The Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad Al-Maliki, called on the world to stop the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, where a serious humanitarian situation is reported due to the bombs and the total blockade imposed by that country.

We insist on the need to increase efforts to stop the bombings and meet the basic needs of the inhabitants of that enclave, the official said during an emergency meeting of the Arab League to address the situation there.

We remind the international community that for years the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, warned about violence and provocations by Israeli forces, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Al-Maliki accused that country of rejecting peace talks and also the creation of a Palestinian state.

After five days of bombing, more than a thousand Palestinians were killed and another five thousand were injured in that area, while more than 260,000 fled their homes to take refuge in UN facilities.

In addition, the neighboring nation cut off water, electricity, food and fuel supplies to that territory.

During the escalation of violence, more than 1,200 Israelis also lost their lives, according to official figures. (Text and photo: PL)
