Camagüey, Oct 19.- If you are a woman, do not stop doing breast self-examination, if you detect any nodule, go to your family doctor, a timely check-up can preserve your life, as stated by Mercedes Véliz Torres, a resident of the municipality from Jimaguayú, who at the end of 2022 was diagnosed as a patient and received cancer treatment.
In November of last year, a multidisciplinary oncology team at the Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital in Camagüey operated on one of my breasts. I feel happy to be well and I want to recognize the control strategy for this condition in Cuba based on education and promotion. That is why I recommend that the female population be attentive to the risk factors of the disease, Véliz Torres pointed out.
She added that in the world several women are affected by this pathology and despite the blockade imposed by the United States government, health personnel on the island always look for alternatives and strategies to prevent it in time.
Dr. Abdel García Olivera, responsible for the number one Family Doctor and Nurse Office in the community of Jimaguayú, explained that in these premises annual tests are carried out on all women over 15 years of age with the aim of detecting alterations or small tumors and if there is a problem, it is referred to the internal medicine specialist.
Grateful for the attention received, today Mercy, as her neighbors call her, enjoys good health and carries out her daily duties.
Breast cancer occupies the second place of incidence in Cuba, hence the importance of early attention and timely treatment. (Text and photos: Néstor Carmenate Arias/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
