Havana, October 23.- A delegation from the National Assembly of People's Power, headed by the Vice President of this body, Ana María Mari Machado, attends the 147th from October 23 to 27. Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU), based in Luanda, capital of the Republic of Angola.
The event organized by the Parliament of this African nation, together with the IPU, will focus its debates on the general theme Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions.
Among the most relevant moments of this international event will be the election by the 31st UIP member parliaments. president of the organization, a responsibility for which four candidates – all African women parliamentarians – have been nominated so far, as a replacement for the current incumbent Duarte Pacheco, from Portugal.
In addition, according to the UIP, the incorporation of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is expected as the 180th Parliament member of this body.
During these days, all the governing bodies of the IPU will meet, including its Executive Committee, its Governing Council, four thematic Standing Committees, the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Human Rights Committee of Parliamentarians. Likewise, the Second World Parliamentary Summit on the Fight against Terrorism and Violent Extremism will take place, and several resolutions will be adopted on the most pressing issues on the current international scene.
The Cuban delegation is also made up of deputies Rolando González Patricio, Cristina Luna Morales, Arelys Santana Bello and Orisell Richards Martínez, presidents of the parliamentary committees on International Relations, Health and Sports, Care for Youth, Children and Women's Equality Rights, and attending the Ninth World Conference of Young Parliamentarians recently held in Vietnam, respectively.
Also present is Jesús Rafael Mora González, director of International Relations of the Auxiliary Offices of the National Assembly and secretary of the Cuba Group at the IPU.
