President of Cuba attends the Victory parade in Moscow (+ Videos)


Moscow, May 9. - The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, participates today in the parade for the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

The president, who arrived in Russia on an official visit on May 4 at the head of a delegation, is one of the more than 30 heads of State or Government who are in the capital of the Slavic nation to take part in the commemorations of the memorable anniversary.

The previous day, Díaz-Canel held a meeting with members of the state mission of the Caribbean nation in Moscow, where he highlighted the importance of participating in the events for the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union against fascism, at a time when attempts are being made to distort history.

The head of state also visited the Moskvich automobile factory, where the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, gave him a donation check for 10 cars for social services in Havana.

Later, along with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, and on behalf of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), he paid tribute to the Liberator Simón Bolívar in the square that bears his name in the Gagarin region of Moscow.

Later, Díaz-Canel held a meeting at the Danilov Monastery with the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, Kiril, who recalled his meeting with Pope Francis in the capital of the Caribbean nation. (PL) (Photo: RT)
