Cuban education suffers effects of US blockade

Havana, Oct 23.- Students and teachers in Cuba today suffer the effects of the blockade imposed by the United States on the island, which prevents the arrival of the study material base to the classrooms and makes academic exchanges difficult.

From March 2022 to February 2023, the damage caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade to the Cuban educational sector amounts to approximately 75 million 551 thousand 799 dollars, according to data presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a report on the need to put an end to Washington's hostile policy.

The US measures make it difficult to acquire inputs for the production of books and pamphlets, which has made it impossible to have the texts of the third improvement of the national education system.

Due to the cancellation of a line of credit, associated with the decision of a Canadian mill to no longer produce for the Cuban destination due to the blockade, the Caribbean Newspaper and Editions Companies stopped producing 76.9 million notebooks, books, medical notebooks and prescriptions and 97.4 million copies of the press.

The unilateral fence makes it impossible for Cuban teachers, students and specialists to participate in numerous virtual events, and also limits their access to specialized databases.

Students from the University of Computer Sciences cannot access more than 300 Internet sites of interest to computer scientists, as they are blocked for Cuban IP addresses, which prevents the download of resources to install or update technologies and makes development difficult. academic, investigative and productive of the educational center.

Cuban Special Education also suffers the consequences of US policy, which indiscriminately complicates the importation of specialized equipment, especially hearing aids for students with that need.

To alleviate these vicissitudes, the educational sector of the Caribbean country implements several measures aimed at ensuring students quality and free training.

Thanks to the efforts of the teachers and the Cuban State, education in the Caribbean country continues to be a reference in the world and despite the obstacles, students from the island regularly obtain notable results in international competitions.

On November 1 and 2, Cuba will again present before the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization a resolution that demands the lifting of the blockade and that for decades has been supported by the vast majority of the members of the world organization. (Text and photo: PL)
