Camagüey, Oct 26.- Founded in December almost 47 years ago, the Geomining Company of Camagüey today seeks new alternatives for the export of chrome and gold despite the effects of the blockade imposed on Cuba.

The territorial institution, which also covers the largest region of the country, the provinces of Las Tunas and Ciego de Ávila, carries out a series of actions to improve production, especially in fields such as Jacinto in the municipality of Guáimaro.

Although the first quarter of the year did not bring the best dividends because at least the situation with fuel for mining affects a lot, according to Yusniel Sánchez, Director of Operations, the goal is to fulfill the export plan at 86 percent.

This year we have made four important exports and we are getting ready for a fifth, says the specialist who emphasized the national market with the production of zeolite, in addition to paints, detergents and other derivatives.

It is necessary to point out the contribution to agriculture because we know the task of producing food, hence calcium carbonate, and agromene with about 600 tons more than a plan of 1,900, gives us some satisfaction, explains Sánchez.

Innovations have been a constant to solve the shortcomings caused by the aforementioned blockade from the United States to Cuba, since they also persecute our markets, censor them and this seriously affects the country's economy, according to the director of the Geomining Company in Camagüey.

With more than four decades of work, Enrique Piñeiro does not finish his work in geological investigations in the Geotechnology Base Business Unit of the entity.

For him, according to statements to Prensa Latina, deposits like Jacinto in the easternmost part of the province could be exploited for up to 10 years, however everything that can be done in our laboratories or the interpreters in the field, takes a long time series of problems in the acquisition of certain techniques, he explains.

Despite the various difficulties, the Geomining Company has a work group that has innovation as its main human resource, supported by specialists from the Camagüey subsidiary of the Cuban Society of Geology, in charge of extracting the most precious from each mineral to the development of the nation.
